Yeah, I've been called a Bitch before . . .

. . . . and I'm sure I'll be called that (and worse) for a long time to come.

See, I'm a huge proponent of gay rights. One of my happiest days this past year was when the state of California realized that the ban on gay marriage was, in fact, oppression of civil rights. Woot!

Now, naturally, right wing religious conservatives want to overturn the California Supreme Court's decision, and take away people's rights. These are the people who, I'm sure, would have lobbied for "separate but equal" back in the early part of the 20th Century.

Saturday afternoon, while hubby and I were in the middle of some major cleaning project, we got a knock on the door. I answered. Two women in conservative suits and styled up-do's were standing on my doorstep. They asked if I was familiar with Proposition 8. I asked them to refresh my memory.

They replied, "You know, the gay marriage proposition."

And they said the word "gay" in almost a whisper - as if God almighty would strike them down for uttering such a vile word. And they had "Yes on 8" buttons adorning their oh-so-conservative suits.

You guys would have been so proud of me! I know hubby was. I just looked at them (actually, SCOWLED might be a better word for it), and said, "Please, LEAVE."

And I shut the door on them.

But, not before I saw the look of surprise on their pinched, ugly little faces.

You're much nicer than me. I wouldn't have said "please". Hell, I probably wouldn't have said "leave". And the shutting of the door would have been more of a slam. You'll have a good karma day soon.

Good for you, woman!

I cannot stand people who knock on my door for any other reason than to bring me flowers (or chocolate...chocolate is always good).

A friend of mine was visited by some Mormons a while ago. She stood there and argued religion with them for so long that they finally got huffy and left on their own. The next day there was a note on her door saying that the entire church was praying for her immortal soul because surely she was on her way to hell.

I bought her a drink.

Yeah, Larry - even Lowk was proud of me. He was in such a huffy mood to begin with, and I'm sure if he had answered the door, their ears would still be scorched.

Normally, I would have done the same thing, but Hubby is always telling me I need to be nicer to people. So, I was as nice as I could be, considering I wanted to scratch their faces off.

Penny - I like your way of thinking! One other group of people I don't mind coming to the door are kids (and I mean the under 15 variety) who are selling things for their school/sports group/scouts group/etc. Especially if they have the goodies right there with them. Like candy. Or cookies. I can handle those, too. :-D

True...but I hate spending $3 to get a box of chocolate covered almonds that contains 13 almonds.

Mmm chocolate covered almonds. Think I may have to make an emergency run to the grocery store now...

Yeah, I know. You probably call me that every day.

In a loving way, of course.

Good for you, Callie!!!!

Being from MA, I understand the issue. We had huge brouhahas here for over a year while it was in debate, before being put up for the vote. Gay marriage was adopted and is legal in MA. L&M thinks it's wrong, but I personally am in favor of it. People need to be whomever they are and the law shouldn't stop that from making their commitment permanent and legal. In fact, once the law was passed, my ex-husband called me up and said he was considering marrying his lover of nine years, and if they did, would I be his Best Person? And I said, without hesitation, "But of course!" Hasn't happened yet, but perhaps it will, someday...

...and well it should. Everyone has a right to be married and miserable!!!! ;-D

Only kidding!
